It’s the beginning of the “holiday season” and I’m sure you’ve seen Christmas stuff all over the stores (probably even before Halloween was over). Poor Thanksgiving gets the shaft…no big hoopla for little o’ Thanksgiving. Sure, you’ll find a single aisle of Thanksgiving somewhere between the clearance Halloween stuff and (we can’t wait to get this on the shelf) Christmas stuff. But let’s not forget the meaning behind this holiday…to GIVE THANKS. Speaking of giving thanks, I’d like to take a moment to thank you for visiting my site and I hope it’s a great resource for you.
If you’re hosting this month the obvious theme would be Giving Thanks. Below are hosting ideas for the DIY-er and the BIN (Buy it Now)-er and everyone in between.
One DIY idea is to ask your guests to email you something they’re grateful for. Print out and cut them into small pieces of paper and bake them into crescent rolls, think squishy fortune cookies. lol Then serve them up and see if your guests can tell who’s is who’s. It’s fun and a great way to focus on being grateful!
Another gratitude idea is to make a gratitude/thankful tree. Just get a small tree branch and put it in a vintage mason jar (use sand or pebbles in the bottom to hold it upright) or just buy a thankful tree. Cut out leaf shapes from card stock, punch a hole and add string, (or you might wanna buy some maple leaf cutouts) then invite your guests to write what they’re thankful for and hang it on the tree.
As far as the décor goes, fall colors and gem tones are perfect for this month. A beautiful fall leaf garland would look great around any doorway. Add a whimsical turkey door hanger to your door for a little fun! Tablecloths can add to your overall look but be sure to pick a solid color or a damask pattern so your guests can still see the dice easily. Speaking of dice, how about some colorful dice to add to the fun?!
Another thing to consider is a themed Traveler, like a plush turkey.
Finally, if you really wanna go over the top here’s a link for a 6-foot inflatable yard turkey!
Hosting in November is an excellent opportunity to let your Bunco group know how much you care.
Other theme ideas are: Autumn Leaves, Touchdown, Wild West, Military Support (Veterans Day), Wine a Bit or Coffee Coffee Coffee
Here’s a recipe I like to serve in November…mostly at parties or even Thanksgiving!
Hot Cranberry Punch
INGREDIENTS
4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
10 cups water
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
4 whole cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole clove
1 cup orange juice
DIRECTIONS
Combine cranberry juice, water, sugar, lemon juice and spices. Simmer 10 minutes. Add orange juice simmer 30 minutes or more. Remove spices to taste. Serve hot.
It’s super yummy…if you want to turn it into an adult beverage add some cinnamon schnapps.
